After the first month the classes are broken down as below. All classes are held in the UCD Sports Centre as mentioned above.

Monday (5-7pm) Beginner Class, Hall A (Top Half) This is the beginners class and is geared towards our new members. We tend to focus on basic sparring techniques, flexibility, fitness and self defense as well as sparring and breaking after the first few months. The class is given by Ms. Lynch. (Generally the largest class with anything up to 80 people training during fresher's week).

Class size varies from 30-40 students.

Tuesday (6-8pm) Senior Class, Hall A (Bottom Half) This class is primarily for students who have training in Taekwon-Do before, i.e. yellow belts up to black belts. If you are finding the beginners class too easy by all means feel free to train with the higher grades. This class is given by Mr. O'hAodha or Mr. Hargaden, and tends to focus on sparring and patterns with some breaking near the end.

Class size varies from 20-30 students.

Thursday (5-7pm) Sparring Session, Hall A (Top Half) This is the tougher class with the focus mainly on sparring, endurance and fitness. This class is for seniors only. New members are more that welcome to join the class after a few months, just have a look at what's expected before you dive in at the deep end! This class is given by Ms. Lynch

Class size varies from 15-20 students.

Friday (1-3pm) Sparring & Patterns class, Small Hall This class is taken by Brian and Ms Moriarty. This class is a great chance to "brush-up" on any aspect of Tkd you need work on, be it Sparring, Patterns, Breaking (Destruction), Self-Defense, or Techniques/Theory.

Class size varies from 10-20 students.

Sunday (1-3pm) Mixed ability, Hall A All members are welcome to participate in this class. Mr. Chris Quinn takes this class each Sunday. This again is a less formal class and is an ideal opportunity to brush up on sparring techniques and patterns due to the small class sizes.

Class size typically 10-15 students.

 Background of the Club

This club is a member of the Irish United Tae Kwon-Do Federation, the Chairman of which is Mr. Don Dalton. The IUTF is an ITF style practicing association and is affiliated with the ITF. Information on the IUTF can be obtained from Ms. Lynch. The club has been in existence since 1995 and was founded by Dr Patrick Falvey, a former IUTF Leinster area representative. Membership is open to all students and staff of the university. The club is bound to follow regulations laid out by the Athletic Union Council and the IUTF. The aim of the club is to promote TKD in Ireland and to ensure students in UCD have an opportunity to experience TKD. The AUC is the governing body for sport in UCD.

The Club has grown from very few members to be one of the largest martial arts clubs in the country with an official membership of about 250 students and post-graduates per year. There is a large representation of all faculties. Due to the nature of the club, it contains black belts from various other Taekwondo associations (including the WTF), bringing together a wide range of views and styles. Every year the club participates in tournaments at intervarsity, national, international and intercontentiental level, as well as various domestic and global tournaments. The club has been very successful with several members at advanced grades and several trophies collected at various competitions. Also, as the club is a college as well as a martial arts institution, there is a healthy social side to the club providing an alternative location for student interaction.
